HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Presbyterian College men's soccer team fell to the High Point Panthers in a Big South Conference matchup on Thursday, 5-0.
PC moves to 2-11-0 on the year and 2-3-0 in conference play. High Point moves to 5-7-2 overall and 2-3-1 in league action.
Hollie Gray (West Des Moines, Ill.), Byron Quinatoa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador) and Bobby Keskey (Louisville, Ky.) each tallied a shot on goal for the Blue Hose.
PC goalkeeper Ethan Watson made six saves in the effort, stopping three shots in each half.
The Blue Hose trailed 1-0 at the half but four second half goals helped High Point pull away.
High Point made the first appearance on the scoreboard, scoring in the match's fifth minute. Shawn Sloan played a ball to Karo Okiomah on the right side and the Panther finished with a hard shot from 10 yards out, giving High Point a 1-0 lead.
PC created one of its closest opportunities of the game on its only shot on goal of the first half shortly after High Point took the lead. Gray found some space at in the 10th minute and took a shot that Panthers goalkeeper Michael Chesler kept out of the net.
The Blue Hose registered two more shots in the half and Watson made three more saves before halftime as PC trailed High Point at the break, 1-0.
PC opened the second half with pressure to create another chance, this time by Quinatoa in the 51st minute. The junior's shot stayed out of the net as Chesler made the save, however, as the scoring gap stayed at one.
The Panthers struck again in the 62nd minute. Ryan Bennett found Alex Martinez for a short shot to extend High Point's advantage to 2-0.
Blue Hose pressure led to two corner kicks from Igancio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) and Luke Ade (Alpharetta, Ga.) but PC could not capitalize. Keskey also fired a shot on goal in the 82nd minute for PC.
High Point added three goals in the final 11 minutes to come away with a 5-0 result. Mamadee Nyepon converted on a one-on-one opportunity in the 80th minute and Leon Carby added goal number four in the 84th on a shot from the left corner of the box.
Shane Malcom finished the scoring in the 86th minute. Watson managed to get in front of the shot but the chance found its way in for the Panthers.
The Blue Hose return home for a Saturday match against Radford. Kickoff at Edens Field at Martin Stadium is slated for 6 p.m.
