CLINTON, S.C.-The Presbyterian College men's tennis team
used the doubles point to gain momentum heading into singles, and downed the
visiting Citadel Bulldogs by a final score of 6-1. After a tight doubles contest, the Blue Hose
won three straight singles spots to secure the match victory.
"It was important that we took the doubles point today,"
said Head Coach Patric Hynes. "We got a
big boost from the fans on the hill and we did a really good job winning the
big points. We still have plenty of
stuff we can get better at and will take lessons from this match moving
forward."
PC's Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) and Gonzalo Asis (Madrid,
Spain) won at number three doubles 8-4, followed by a close 8-5 score at number
one with Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) and Andrew Brigham (Sutton,
Birmingham) coming out on top to take the doubles point for the Blue Hose.
Zachary Sprouse (Hilton Head, S.C.) and Asis earned the
first two singles points at the six and five spots, and Kenneth Mooney (Martinez,
Ga.) recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at number four to clench the match for PC. Mills and Berghaus also tallied wins on the
day to help the Blue Hose take the 6-1 match victory.
PC returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 16 when they
travel to USC Upstate to face the Spartans in non-conference action. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
