BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.-The Presbyterian College men's
tennis team fell to Gardner-Webb 5-2 in the first Big South Conference match of
the season for both teams. The Blue Hose
earned two singles points but it wasn't enough to overcome the Runnin'
Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb earned the doubles point with wins at the
number one and number two spot. Gonzalo
Asis (Madrid, Spain) and Nathan Crocker (Clinton, S.C.) won 6-3, 6-0 at number
thee but GWU had already claimed the point.
In singles play, Ivan Ho (Hong Kong, China) lost at
number five 0-6, 4-6 but Zachary Sprouse (Hilton Head, S.C.) grabbed a point
for PC with a 6-3, 6-0 win at the number six spot. Gardner-Webb claimed the next two points with
wins at number five and number one.
Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) won at number three, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6
(6-4) to give the Blue Hose their second point but GWU had already clinched the
match win.
PC returns to action on Friday, Feb. 11 when they travel
to Young Harris, Ga. to face Kennesaw State and Young Harris at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
