The Presbyterian College volleyball team lost its first conference match of the season, falling to Big South foe Winthrop, 3-0, in action tonight at Templeton Arena in Clinton, S.C. The Blue Hoses fell by scores of 21-25, 16-25 and 25-27.
PC falls to 6-11 overall and 2-1 in the league, while Winthrop improves to 10-5 and 3-0.
The Blue Hose made a game out of it in the third by coming from behind to tie the set. Down 20-24, PC went on a 5-1 to tie the set at 25-25 before a Blue Hose attack error and an Eagle kill ended the threat and gave Winthrop the set and match win.
Leading Winthrop was Becca Toor with 14 kills and only two errors for a .480 hitting percentage. Chatherine Brusie paced the team in digs with 19. Rachel Hall had 10 kills which was tops for PC, while Mary Trimpe's 11 digs was as well.
Winthrop totaled 41 kills with 15 errors for a .226 hitting percentage. PC had 34 kills with 21 errors for a .104 percentage. The Blue Hose came away with 52 digs, compared to 63 for Winthrop.
PC is at UNC Asheville, Friday, Oct. 7 for a 7 p.m. match.
