Presley Mabrey posted double-digit kills for the 14th time this season to lead the Presbyterian College volleyball team to the 3-1 win over Charleston Southern in action tonight at Templeton Center. PC won by scores of 25-12, 25-21, 20-25 and 25-15.
The Blue Hose improved to 10-15 overall and 7-3 in the Big South, while CSU fell to 11-17, 4-6.
PC was led by Mabrey with 16 kills and Allison Brown with 10. They were followed by Rachel Hall with nine and Andrea Barman with eight. Ashtin Frank, who had a career-high six kills, recorded 42 assists. Trimpe posted 36 digs as well for the Blue Hose.
CSU was led by Meredith Parrott with 12 kills and Sydney Tracy with 10.
The Blue Hose posted 53 kills and 24 errors for a .197 hitting percentage, while the Bucs had 40 kills and 19 errors for a .162 percentage. PC posted eight service aces with Trimpe leading the way with three. The Bucs held the block advantage of PC, 11.0 - 8.0
A PC attack error and a kill by Parrott gave Charleston Southern a 2-1 lead to open game one before the Blue Hose, behind three kills by Elizabeth Miler, scored the next 12 of 14 points to take 13-4 lead and forcing a CSU timeout. The Bucs capitalized on back to back PC errors to cut the margin to seven, 7-14. PC recorded four kills in a row, two by Mabrey, and a CSU attack error to race out to the 19-7 lead.
The Bucs cut the deficit to 10 off a PC attack error, as well as a kill by Tracey and trailed 10-20. PC used one of Trimpe's two service aces and kills by Brown and Barman to take the 5-2 run to the game one win, 25-12.
The Blue Hose exploded out the gate in game two, taking an early 9-4 lead after taking advantage of three Rachel Hall kills and one from Mabrey. The lead was short-lived as CSU scored five straight, highlighted by two kills from Tracy and another from Katrina Houston, to tie the game at 9-9. The game was a back-and-forth battle after that, with five more ties coming after the 9-9 deadlock.
Down 14-15, Brown posted two straight kills while Barman added one to lead the Blue Hose back ahead 17-15. PC kept at least a two-point lead until back-to-back attack errors by PC cut the lead to just one at 18-19. Frank brought the winning margin back to two off a kill, with CSU adding an attack error and Barman posting another kill, to give PC the 22-18 lead.
The Bucs made it 19-22 off a kill by Tracy before Mabrey's kill gave PC the four-point 23-19 lead. The Blue Hose called a timeout after Erin Lavenice made it a two point game, 21-23, and came out of it with a Mabrey kill to set up game-point, 24-21. Brown made it 2-0 for the Blue Hose with a kill of her own, as PC won game two 25-21.
It was all Charleston Southern early in game three as the Bucs raced out to a 6-1 lead, helped by four kills, two of which were by Tracy. Miler, Brown, Frank and Mabrey led PC back with several kills to knot the game at 7-7. The Blue Hose scored three unanswered to take a 10-7 lead. CSU cut the margin to one at 9-10 before a Barman kill and CSU attack error took the PC lead to three, 12-9.
Down 11-14, CSU used a kill by Parrott and three straight attack errors, including a block by Tracy and Parrott, to score four straight and take a 15-14 lead before PC called a timeout. The Blue Hose tied took back the lead, 16-15 off two CSU errors before a Parrott kills tied the game at 16-16.
PC and CSU traded points and with the game tied 17-17, the Bucs posted back to back kills and took advantage of a PC error to take a 20-17 lead.
Trailing 19-22, off a Mabrey kill, the Blue Hose made it 20-22 after CSU recorded a bad set. Two PC errors and a CSU service aced sealed the win as the Bucs took the 25-20 game three victory.
Tied 4-4 in game four, Brown and Frank contributed kills to help PC take an 8-5 lead. CSU cut the lead to two, 7-9 before PC went on a 16-2 run, using two kills by Brown and Hall each, to take a 15-9 lead.
The Blue Hose built a 22-12 lead off kills by Frank and Mabrey, as well as three CSU errors. Barman posted back-to-back kills to make it 24-14, with Frank bringing the match home with another kill as PC took the 25-15 game four and match win.
The Blue Hose host Coastal Carolina this Saturday with the match starting at 2 p.m. at the Templeton Center.
