BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's
soccer team dropped a Big South Conference matchup on the road during a chilly
Tuesday night at Gardner-Webb, 3-0.
Gardner-Webb (4-12-2, 3-4-2 Big South) scored two goals
before halftime and added another in the second half to get past PC (3-15-0, 2-7-0
Big South).
PC ends its regular season on Saturday against VMI at 1 p.m.
Byron Quinatoa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador) led
PC with two shots on goal while five other Blue Hose notched one on the night.
Goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) made eight saves
in the effort before Tanner Osborne (Lexington, S.C.) entered the net late in
the match, stopping one shot. Beadle made several strong saves in the contest.
Matt Bogart gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 31st
minute, finishing off a ball that eventually found its way to Bogart by way of
Jon Reinhardsen and Taylor Jordan.
Denzel Clarke found the back of the net 7:58 later to give
Gardner-Webb a two-goal advantage. The Runnin' Bulldog took a pass from Jalen
Gathers and fired a shot that skipped over the outstretched hands of Beadle.
Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) tested Gardner-Webb
goalkeeper Scott Krotee in the seventh minute and Pachinno Roberts (Powder
Springs, Ga.) nearly found an equalizer with a header in the 37th
minute.
PC also found two quick shots from Jonny Mercado (Lilburn,
Ga.) and Jamel Manning (Harrisburg, Pa.) seconds before the halftime whistle.
Manning nearly scored shortly after halftime but his try flew just over the crossbar. The sophomore registered three shots against the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
Gardner-Webb sealed the result in the 82nd minute
on an unassisted goal from Chijioke Akujuobi, coming through the left side and
launching a shot into the right side of the net.
PC kept up the pressure in the second half, tallying four
shots on goal and two corner kicks, but the Blue Hose could not covert as the Runnin'
Bulldogs came away with the win.
