Campbell Downs Women's Basketball, 68-44

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Presbyterian College women's basketball team dropped its final road game of the 2011-12 season on Monday night, falling to Campbell, 68-44.

PC moves to 12-15 on the year and 6-10 in Big South Conference play. Campbell improves to 16-11 overall and 8-8 in league action.

A strong first half that saw the Blue Hose outshoot (50 percent on 10-of-20 to Campbell's 44 percent on 11-of-25) and outrebound (15 to 14) the Camels gave way to an uncharacteristic second where PC made only 23.1 percent of its field goals. Campbell outscored the Blue Hose 42-21 in the second half to take the victory.

PC did produce several bright spots, however, as Shonda Burnside (Gray Court, S.C.) blocked a season-high four shots, one short of her career high. The performance ties her for eighth in program history with 63 blocks, catching Leah McCullough (1986-90) and Denyel Barman (1994-98).

Freshman Noelle Carter (Neptune, N.J.) also hit the second three-pointer of her career in her only field goal attempt of the night.

PC scored 25 bench points on the night, more than half of its offensive output.

Katelyn Bass led Campbell with 13 points and 11 assists. Tonisha Baker added 13 points as well.

Campbell went on a 5-0 run to begin the game, but PC responded soon after with a 10-0 run in the first half to lead by eight with 12:53 left.

PC continued to fend off the Camels and a Devin Fothergill (Somerset, Ky.) layup gave the Blue Hose a five-point lead with 7:49 left in the first half.

From there, Campbell went on a 12-4 run to close the half and take a 26-23 lead into the halftime break.

Kristen Stevens (Pickerington, Ohio) scored five points in the second half, but Campbell made 16 field goals in the period to seal the victory.

The Blue Hose return home for the final two games of the season, beginning with a Friday night contest against Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m. The team will honor its senior, Kristen Stevens, prior to the opening tip-off.
