CONWAY, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team
dropped a Big South Conference match to No. 17 Coastal Carolina on Saturday,
3-0.
PC moves to 2-8-0 on the season and 1-1-0 in Big South
Conference play. Coastal Carolina improves to 8-1-2 and 3-0-0 in league action.
The Chanticleers scored once in the first half before adding
two more in the second to seal the result.
PC goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) made 10 saves
against Coastal Carolina, who entered the match in the No. 17 spot in the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America rankings. The junior stopped six
shots in the first half and four in the second.
Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) paced the Blue Hose
with two shots on goal. Monchetti tested goalkeeper Federico Bertele in the 23rd minute but the netminder kept the shot out of the net.
Ashton Bennett put the Chanticleers ahead in the 35th
minute by finishing off a Pedro Ribeiro assist for a 1-0 advantage. Beadle
continued to make saves to keep Coastal's lead at the minimum heading into
halftime.
The Blue Hose increased their shot and corner kick count in
the second half while looking to get on the scoreboard.
Robby Joe Daniels extended the Chanticleers' lead on a score
in the 72nd minute, 10 minutes before Jakub Stourac ended the
scoring with his first goal of the season.
Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.), Byron Quinatoa (Santos Domingos
de los Colorados, Ecuador) and Jonny Mercado (Lilburn, Ga.) each posted a shot in
the effort.
PC returns home to face UNC Asheville on Wednesday. The
opening whistle is slated for 7 p.m.
