ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team stumbled in a Big South Conference road match on Wednesday, falling to the Winthrop Eagles by a 4-0 margin.
PC moves to 3-10-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the Big South. The Blue Hose will return home to host Radford on Sunday at 2 p.m. Winthrop improves to 9-4-1 on the year and 3-3 in league play.
The Eagles used four goals in the first half—two from Achille Obougou—to take the win.
PC outshot the Eagles six to one in the second half while looking to cut into the opponents' lead. Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.) led the Blue Hose in shots, with four on the afternoon.
Pol Sole' began the scoring in the 21st minute by converting a redirected pass from Adriano Negri into the left corner to give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Mason Lavallet followed in the 32nd minute by finishing off a Patrick Barnes cross into the goal box.
Obougou capped the first half scoring with a pair of quick goals shortly before the halftime break. The Eagle tapped in a rebound with 2:18 left before halftime and scored again less than two minutes later to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead at intermission.
One of PC's best chances came in the start of the second half. Two minutes and five seconds into the period, Charles Blankenship (Collierville, Tenn.) fired a shot that hit a Winthrop defender and nearly crossed the goal line before an Eagle cleared the ball out of danger.
Blue Hose goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) stopped five shots in the effort.
