AUBURN, Ala. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team dropped its non-conference finale on Wednesday night at Auburn, falling to the Tigers by a 64-27 margin.
PC moves to 2-8 on the year and will break for the Christmas holiday before playing at Big South Conference foe Winthrop on Saturday, December 28 at 1 p.m. Auburn improves to 8-3.
Karlee Taylor (Asheville, N.C.) led PC with seven points and Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) followed with six. Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) hauled in a game-high eight rebounds, one shy of her career-high.
Rebecca Walker (Snellville, Ga.) registered a block against the Tigers to run her streak to six straight games with a blocked shot.
Auburn jumped out to an 11-0 lead before a pair of Sherece Smith (Clemson, S.C.) knocked down a pair of free throws to put PC on the board at the 15:22 mark. PC would allow only 16 more points for the rest of the half and make a run at the end of the period.
Down 24-7 with 5:44 before halftime, the Blue Hose kicked off an 8-2 run to narrow Auburn's lead to 11. Allen started the stretch with a layup before Walker knocked down a jumper for two points. Allen later used a Kelly offensive rebound to hit a jumper of her own and two Taylor free throws capped the run to make it a 26-15 ballgame.
Auburn hit the front end of a pair of free throws to take a 27-15 lead into halftime.
The Tigers controlled much of the play for the second half despite an early three-pointer from Walker thanks to a Kaycie Reffner (Altoona, Pa.) assist. Reffner led the team in assists (two) for the fourth time this season.
Taylor scored five points for the Blue Hose in the second half. Kelly followed with four and Walker added three in the final 20 minutes.
