CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team ended its 2013 regular season in style, knocking off Charlotte in a Sunday road match, 4-2.
PC improves to 19-9 overall and will next travel to the Big South Men's Tennis Championship on Thursday in Rock Hill, S.C. Charlotte moves to 11-9.
The Blue Hose began the day with a pair of doubles wins to clinch the dual match's first point. Grayson Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) and Rafael Berghaus (Offenbach, Germany) held off J. Massallé Ferrer and Jack Williams, 8-5, while Andrew Brigham (Birmingham, England) and William O'Connell (Nadi, Fiji) bested Alex Calott and Paul Cisti, 8-4.
Three singles wins clinched the match for the Blue Hose. Mills led the charge from the top flight, upending Jack Williams in a 6-3, 6-1 verdict.
Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.) followed at the fourth flight with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Calott. The win bumped Bruce to 18 wins on the season.
Brigham grabbed a win at No. 6 over K. Kwasniewicz in a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) battle. The senior becomes the sixth Blue Hose to break the double-digit win plateau in singles matches with his 10th victory.
The match ended before a resolution to the fifth-flight match between Gonzalo Asis (Madrid, Spain)and Paul Cisti. Asis won the first set, 6-3, but the match ended unfinished.
