Men's Soccer Drops Big South Opener to No. 22 Coastal Carolina

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team dropped its Big South Conference opener on Tuesday night, falling to visiting No. 22 Coastal Carolina by a 4-0 margin.

PC moves to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1 in the Big South while Coastal improves to 4-2-0 and opens league action at 1-0. The Blue Hose take a week off of competition before hitting the road to play at Georgia Southern at 6 p.m. The Chanticleers play at No. 5 VCU on Saturday.

The Chanticleers scored three goals in the second half to take the win. Several came in one-on-one situations in the box.

PC goalkeeper Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) tied a career-high while at PC with 13 saves.

Nico Fazio (Roswell, Ga.) gave PC its best chance in the first half, firing a shot that clanged off the crossbar in the early going. Charles Blankenship (Collierville, Tenn.) later tested Coastal goalkeeper Devin Cook with a long shot as well.

PC held off the Coastal attack until the Chanticleers broke through 1:41 before the halftime whistle. Forward Kevin Le Bras played a ball at the top of the box to Jakub Stourac, whose immediate shot deflected off of a diving Beadle and bounced to Sergio Camargo. The Chanticleer converted from there, firing a shot high into the net to put the visitors ahead at the break, 1-0.

The Chanticleers continued to press and scored their second goal in the 54th minute. A PC yellow card set up the visitors 10 yards outside the goal box, and Justin Portillo's free kick found the head of Pedro Ribeiro for a Coastal Carolina goal.

Two corner kicks gave the Chanticleers their next goals at the 76th and 88th minutes, as Simon Laugsand and Kai Morton converted in the box to ensure the win.

Ebun Terry (Lilburn, Ga.) and Fazio both forced Cook to make saves in the second half with quality chances on the Coastal goal.

Two Blue Hose newcomers made their first collegiate starts in Ryan Reeves (Berkhamsted, England) and John Speed (Decatur, Ga.).
