Western Carolina held the Blue Hose to just 26 kills, capitalizing on 10 team blocks and nine service aces, en route to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-14) win over the Presbyterian College volleyball team this afternoon at the Carolina Classic being held this weekend in Columbia, S.C.
PC, which falls to 2-12 on the year, rounds out tournament action against host South Carolina tonight at 7 p.m. The Catamounts improve to 9-4.
Leading the Blue Hose was Andrea Barman with 13 kill and just four errors for a .300 hitting percentage. Mary Trimpe posted 21 team-leading blocks while Ashtin Frank followed with 23 assists.
PC posted a .017 hitting percentage, compared to .171 for the Catamounts, which recorded 34 kills in the match.
Leading WCU was Jordan Timmermann with seven kills, followed by Addy George with six.
In a close game two, which the Blue Hose lost by just three at 22-25, PC was down 7-1 but rallied back with a 13-4 run, to take a 14-11 lead. Western Carolina responded with one of its own, this one a 9-1 run to retake the lead at 20-15. Back to back kills by Barman helped the Blue Hose fight back to within one, 22-23, but to straight WCU kills sealed the Catamount 25-22 win.
