BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team scored first in its Saturday afternoon road match at Campbell, but the Camels responded to pull away for a 3-1 Big South Conference win.
PC moves to 1-11-0 on the year and 0-6-0 in the Big South. The Blue Hose next travel to Gardner-Webb for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday evening. Campbell improves to 5-8-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the Big South. The Camels next host High Point on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Campbell scored two second half goals to break a 1-1 halftime tie for the victory.
PC's Cade Crow (Liberty, Mo.) notched his first career score and put the Blue Hose ahead with a tally in the 34th minute. Mason Lewis (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) headed down a pass from Brett Godwin (Suwanee, Ga.) for the sophomore Crow, who beat goalkeeper Matthew Mozynski on the left side for a 1-0 Blue Hose lead.
PC's edge lasted only 30 seconds, however, as Travis Gonzalez headed home a Julian Santia corner kick to tie the game at 1-1 in the 34th minute.
PC goalkeeper Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C.) made one save in the first half as the two sides headed into the halftime break tied 1-1.
The Blue Hose defense held strong for nearly half an hour until Bradley Farias broke through with his ninth of the season in the 74th minute. The Camel forward used assists from Tunji Osifeso and Reafe Anderson to score low right to put the Camels ahead, 2-1.
Anderson potted an insurance goal of his own with less than two minutes to go, one-timing a pass from Farias into the bottom right corner for a 3-1 final score.
Archer stopped five shots in the second half while PC forced Campbell's Mozynski to make four saves on the afternoon. Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay) led PC with four shots. Lews, Crow, Jonathan Turnley (Manhattan, Kan.), Chase Fearon (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and John Speed (Decatur, Ga.) each tallied a shot on goal.
PC defenders stopped two shots on the line to keep the Blue Hose within striking distance.
