CLINTON, S.C.- The High Point Panthers shut out the Presbyterian College men's soccer team 3-0 on Friday night at Martin Stadium.
Three first half goals by the Panthers (4-4-1 overall) would be enough to get the team's second Big South Conference victory of the season. Presbyterian falls to 1-7-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Mamadee Nyepon scored his seventh goal of the season for High Point in the 20th minute off a pass from Austin Yearwood, who took a cross from the left side from teammate Ben Burdon.
Nyepon played back a loose ball in the box to Renato Punyed, who scored his second goal of the season in the 35th minute to extend the Panther lead to 2-0.
Irvin Ramirez scored the final goal of the game in the 40th minute off a pass from Ebe Kudulo to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead at halftime. Neither team would score in the second half.
High Point had a 14-4 advantage in shots over Presbyterian, as well as a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
Ignacio Monchetti (Montevideo, Uruguay/Mauldin), Greg White (Stockbridge, Ga./Woodland), Donovan Waddell (Columbia, S.C./Richland Northeast), and Matthew McManis (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood) each recorded one shot for the Blue Hose.
Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte) took the loss in goal for the Blue Hose. Archer recorded seven saves before Connor Behrend (St. Simons Island/Glynn Academy) came in for the final ten minutes of the game. High Point's goalie David Price played all 90 minutes but did not make any saves.
The Blue Hose will travel to Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night to take on the Chanticleers. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
