High Point Holds Off Blue Hose Women's Basketball, 54-49

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team attempted a furious comeback rally in the waning moments of its road matchup at High Point on Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers held on to win, 54-49.

PC moves to 4-4 and 1-1 in the Big South. The Blue Hose will take the week off competition for final exams and return to host Southern Wesleyan on Monday, December 15 at 11:30 a.m. High Point improves to 5-3 (2-0) and hosts UNC Greensboro on Monday night.

Down 10 with 2:51 to go, the Blue Hose rattled off seven straight points to pull within three with 54 seconds left in the game. Janie Miles (Clemson, S.C.) began the run by draining a three-pointer to make it a seven-point deficit and Cortney Storey (Fayetteville, Tenn.) followed with a layup to pull within five. Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) then finished inside to cut the gap to three at the 54-second mark. After PC called its last timeout, however, Ashante Richard found space inside for a bucket with 29 seconds left and High Point held on for the 54-49 win.

PC held High Point to a season-low 54 points and limited the Panthers to 36.1 percent shooting (22-for-61) on the afternoon. Miles led PC for the second straight game with 15 points while Allen's seven rebounds paced the team in that category.

High Point broke a 40-40 tie at the 9:26 mark with 10 straight points, five coming from Lindsay Puckett. Carter had just given PC its first lead of the second half before the Panthers assembled their run.

Stacia Robertson collected 16 rebounds and added 11 points. Kaylah Keys led all players with 18 points on the afternoon.

High Point jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game before PC clawed its way back with nine straight points of its own. A Noelle Carter free throw capped the run that included points from four different Blue Hose and gave PC its first lead of the game, 11-10 at the 9:58 mark.

Carter put PC back in the lead with a three-pointer at 7:46 to make it a 15-14 score. The Blue Hose locked down on the Panthers, forcing 10 straight misses over a six-minute span to push ahead.

The Blue Hose kept the margin close for much of the half, but Kaylah Keys's four three-pointers in the first half and a buzzer-beating trey from Teddy Vincent gave the Panthers a 28-21 halftime lead. Seven different Blue Hose scored in the first half with Keyonna Allen's five points pacing the squad. PC held High Point to 30.6 percent shooting in the opening period.

The Panthers kept their several-possession lead early through the second half before Elizabeth Landers (Greenville, S.C.) knocked down a free throw to set up buckets from Allen and Storey. Miles hit a trey soon after a Robertson free throw to cut the lead to one, keeping the visitors within range for Carter's jumper and the stretch of runs that ensued for the rest of the game.
