The Blue Hose won the doubles point, but dropped four of five singles matches to fall to the Charlotte 49ers in men's tennis action this afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts in Clinton, S.C.
Seniors Gonzalo Asis, Rafael Berghaus, Grayson Mills and Nathan Crocker were honored between doubles and singles play as part of senior day festivities.
PC drops to 23-6 on the year, while Charlotte improves to 11-5 with the win. The Blue Hose return to Big South Conference play on Thursday when they travel to Winthrop for their last regular season match.
The duo of Ben Kelley and Ryan Miller took care of Forrest Edwards and Jack Williams at number two doubles, 8-6, while Diego Manzanas and Mills earned the 8-7 win over Alex Calott and Paul Cisti at number three to give PC the doubles point. Kamil Khalil and Jordi Massalle-Ferrer defeated Berghaus and Joel Roberts at number one doubles, 8-5.
Mills earned his 21st win of the season with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Edwards at number one singles, while Khalil won at number two singles for Charlotte, taking the 6-3, 6-4 victory over Berghaus.
49er Ferrer took number three singles over Danny Bruce, 6-2, 6-4, while Williams defeated Manzanas at number five, 6-0, 6-1. The 49ers took number six singles, with Cisti winning, 7-6, 6-3 over Asis.
After splitting the first two sets, 6-4, 4-6, Kelley was up 2-1 in the third before the match was called.
