CLINTON, S.C.- Five different Georgia Southern players scored individual goals to shut out the Presbyterian College men's soccer team 5-0 on Tuesday night at Martin Stadium.
Dalton Churchwell, Eric Dinka, David Vargas Masis, Adam Abdellaoui, and Jeremy Rector each scored one goal apiece for the visiting Eagles (4-2-0).
Presbyterian (1-5-0) held a 20-17 shot advantage over the Eagles, but registered two corner kicks compared to Georgia Southern's three throughout the game.
Mason Lewis (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Myrtle Beach H.S.) led the offensive attack for the Blue Hose with three shots.
Churchwell scored the first goal of the game in the 21st minute when he scored off a rebounded ball from Vargas Masis' blocked shot.
In the 39th minute, Dinka beat his defenders to the box to score the second point of the game and give the Eagles a 2-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, Vargas Masis scored his third goal of the season off a crossing pass from Churchwell in the 74th minute.
Churchwell got his second assist of the game when he gave the go-ahead pass to Abdellaoui, who beat his defender and buried it in the back of the net to extend the lead to 4-0 with less than nine minutes to play in the game.
In the remaining four minutes of the match, Rector was left open in front of the goal for an easy chip to end the game on a strong-note for the visitors, 5-0.
Jack Falle earned the shutout in goal for the Eagles with seven saves in the win. He stands at 4-2 on the season.
PC goalkeeper Connor Behrend (St. Simons Island, Ga./Glynn Academy) took the loss for the Blue Hose, making three saves and allowing three goals. Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic H.S.) came in for Behrend in goal for the remaining 12 minutes, recording one save and allowing two goals.
The Blue Hose will hit the road on Saturday Sept. 27 when they take on Radford in the first Big South Conference matchup of the season. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
