Blue Hose Rally to Earn 2-1 Win Over Wofford at Home

CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College men's soccer team earned its first win of the season in a thrilling 2-1 victory over Wofford on Sept. 6 at Martin Stadium.

Matthew McManis (Greenwood, S.C./Greenwood H.S.) made two penalty kicks in the final three minutes of the game to clench the home victory for the Blue Hose.

Wofford's Nestor Jaramillo scored the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute off an assist from Connor Davis. The goal was Jaramillo's second of the season.

The Blue Hose battled back in the second half, nearly scoring on multiple occasions, only to have two goals called back due to off-sides. A Wofford red card in the box with 2:33 remaining in the game set up McManis for his game-tying penalty kick.

McManis was awarded a second PK with 0:12 ticks on the clock to seal the deal for the Blue Hose and avoid an overtime period.  McManis now has three career goals for PC as only a sophomore.

PC had a 12-11 shot advantage over the Terriers, as well as a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Johnny Archer (Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic H.S.) earned his first win in goal for the Blue Hose, making six saves, including a huge save on a Wofford penalty kick just minutes before McManis tied the game on his first PK. Wofford's Garrett Closs took the loss with four saves in goal.

The Blue Hose will head to Appalachian State on Sept. 12 for the next match of the season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
