PC Scores Conference-High Points in Double Overtime Victory, 84-78

The Presbyterian College women's basketball team scored the team's most points in a Big South Conference game in the thrilling 84-78 double overtime conference win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday afternoon at The HTC Center in Conway, S.C.

The previous record of 79 points was set in the conference win against Charleston Southern (79-61) on Feb. 16, 2013. The 84 tallies against Coastal stands as the most points scored by any Big South women's basketball team this season.

Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) scored 19 second half/overtime points en route to a team-high 21 points. Janie Miles (Clemson, S.C.) cashed in four three-pointers to score 17 points. Cortney Storey (Fayetteville, Tenn.) and Rebecca Walker (Snellville, Ga.) tallied 10 points each. Elizabeth Landers (Greenville, S.C.) came home with nine points, while Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) scored six points in the overtime periods to help seal the victory for the Blue Hose. Storey also dished out eight assists and Kelly pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in the win.

After being shut out in the first half, AJ Jordan finished the game with a career-high 36 points for the Chanticleers. Ced Gibson and Anna Vogt scored 16 points apiece for the hosts. Vogt and Alexis Robinson finished the game with eight rebounds each, while Jordan and Gibson each pulled down seven.

The Blue Hose finished the game shooting 53% (32-60) from the field and 70% (14-20) from the foul line, while the Chanticleers were 38% (26-68) in field goals and 78% (18-23) from the free throw line. PC out-rebounded Coastal 40-35, but was on the higher end of turnovers (20-14).

The Chanticleers got out to an early 5-4 lead, but Storey hit a 3-pointer with 16:12 on the clock to give the Blue Hose a lead they maintained for the rest of the half. PC led by as much as nine points in the half with 7:57 on the clock, but Coastal cut it to three points on two occasions. Jameka Braden (Shelbyville, Tenn.) hit a 3-ball with 1:30 to play and Storey went the length of the court for a layup at the buzzer to help send their team into the locker room up six, 32-26. Eight PC players scored points in the first half, but Miles and Landers led the evenly distributed Blue Hose scoring effort with six points apiece. Vogt led the Chants with 10 points and five rebounds in the opening half.

The Blue Hose maintained the lead in the second half until Coastal scored eight unanswered points to take a 41-40 lead with 11:00 minutes remaining in regulation. The teams kept it close and exchanged the lead four more times in the half, but Walker hit a jumper from the left wing to tie it up 65-65 with 11 seconds remaining. A last chance put-back shot made by Vogt at the buzzer was reviewed by officials and ruled as no-good to send the teams into overtime. Jordan scored 15 of the team's final 17 points in the second half to lead the Chants, while Miles and Allen each had 10 points apiece to lead the Blue Hose.

Kelly hit two jumpers to tie up the score in the back-and-forth first overtime period, including the final points of the period with 1:00 to play to send the game into a second overtime. The Blue Hose scored six straight points midway through the second overtime to establish an eight point lead, the largest since the first half. PC held Coastal to only five points and put together a 9-13 performance from the charity stripe in the final overtime period to seal the win. Jordan scored all but two points of the Chanticleers' 13 points scored in the two overtimes.

With the victory, the Blue Hose improve to .500 (8-8) and 3-4 in the Big South. PC will host Longwood on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. as part of a Blue Hose men's and women's doubleheader.
