BOONE, N.C.- The Presbyterian College men's tennis team opened up a weekend of road play with a close 5-2 win over Appalachian State on Friday night.
PC got out to a 1-0 lead after securing 7-6 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles on the pairings of Joel Roberts (Summerville, S.C.)/Alexander Lykou (Aarhus, Denmark) and Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.)/Diego Manzanas (Madrid, Spain). Ben Kelley (Weaverville, N.C.) and Ryan Miller (Norcross, Ga.) dropped a close battle at No. 2 doubles to the Mountaineers, 3-6.
Alexander Lykou pushed the Blue Hose up 2-0 after winning No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.
App. State's Oliver Casey defeated Danny Bruce 2-6, 2-6 at No. 1 singles to put the Mountaineers within one point, 2-1.
The Mountaineers tied it up 2-2 when Zach Bost beat Ryan Miller in three sets, 5-7, 6-0, 2-6 at No. 2 singles.
The Blue Hose went on to sweep the final three matches to secure the win as Diego Manzanas, Ben Kelley, and Alejandro Bejar (Madrid, Spain) all earned victories over the Mountaineers.
The Blue Hose improve to 6-1 and head to Kennesaw State tomorrow for a 1:30 p.m. matchup.
