Blue Hose pass century mark in win over Columbia College

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team took care of Columbia College (S.C.) 104-37 Tuesday at the Templeton Center on Education Day. PC had a season-high five players score double figures.

The Blue Hose went to 4-5 on the season, while the Koalas fell to 6-8 on the year. PC last scored 100 points on November 18, 2014 in a 120-45 win over Allen (S.C.). Taylor Petty led the Blue Hose with 19 points, the sixth time she's powered the PC offense this season. PC travels to Boulder, Colo. for a 5:30 p.m. tilt against Colorado on Saturday.

PC started the game on a 10-0 run before Amber Sherrill sank two free-throws to put Columbia on the scoreboard. The Blue Hose then ended the first quarter on a 7-0 run. Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) and Petty (Spartanburg, S.C.) led PC with six points on two 3-pointers in the quarter. The Blue Hose led 25-8 after the first period.

Salina Virola (Huntsville, Ala.) led the Blue Hose with six points in the second quarter, including back-to-back layups with a little more than two minutes remaining in the quarter. Kaycie Reffner (Altoona, Pa.) gave PC its biggest lead of the half on a made layup with five second left in the quarter. The Blue Hose led 44-16 at the half.

The Blue Hose opened the second half on a 14-0 run and held the Koalas without a field goal for nearly six minutes. PC shot 65 percent (13-of-20) from the floor in the third quarter and 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from behind the 3-point arc in the period. The Blue Hose took a 76-25 lead into the final period. PC scored 32 points in the quarter, which tied its season-high in a single period.

The Blue Hose held the Koalas to 18.6 percent (8-of-43) shooting from the floor and forced 28 turnovers in the game. Columbia scored 19 points off free-throws. PC outrebounded the Koalas 55-28.

Virola provided 18 points and five rebounds, while Kelly produced 15 points and six rebounds. Kendra Talley (Norcross, Ga.) and Tia Mason (San Antonio, Texas) both netted 10 points, a career-high for Talley. Allie Wager (Easley, S.C.) led the Blue Hose with 10 rebounds.
