FARMVILLE, VA.- The Presbyterian College women's basketball team fought back hard in the second half to get a 36-32 overtime win over the Longwood Lancers at Willett Hall on Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hose improve to 14-13 overall and 9-9 in the Big South Conference. PC travels to Charleston Southern on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game with the Buccaneers. The Lancers drop to 3-25 overall and 3-16 in conference play. They next play the Bucs next Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) led PC with 10 points in the win. Rebecca Walker (Snellville, Ga.) and Cortney Storey (Fayetteville, Tenn.) both scored seven points and had nine rebounds apiece for the Blue Hose.
Deborah Headen and Kyndal Skersick each had eight points for the Lancers.
PC got out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of foul shots by Allen with 18:45 to play. Neither team would score again until Deborah Headen broke the scoring drought for Farmville and tied it up 2-2 with 12:22 to play.
Walker made a bucket to give PC a 4-2 lead, but the Lancers scored the next seven points to take a 9-4 lead with 6:43 on the clock. Another good pair of free throws by Allen and a three-pointer by Janie Miles (Clemson, S.C.) tied it up 9-9 with 5:28 to play in the half.
Kyndal Skersick hit a three for the Lancers to take back the lead for the hosts. Allen finished her perfect 6-for-6 performance from the line in the first half with another pair of good free throws to cut it to 12-11, but Skersick nailed another trey to give the Lancers a 15-11 halftime lead.
Longwood scored the first five points of the half before Allen dished it to Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) for a backdoor layup to cut it to 20-13. The Lancers scored two buckets before the Blue Hose scored six unanswered points to cut it to 23-19.
Raven Williams hit a three for Longwood, but Storey nailed a triple and Walker made two layups to put the Blue Hose up 26-25 with 6:55 remaining. Noelle Carter (Neptune, N.J.) put the Blue Hose ahead three points with a jumper, but the Lancers tied it up again 28-28 with a good foul shot and layup. Kelly made on of her two foul shots and Longwood made a layup to put the hosts up 30-29.
Walker made one of her two foul shots to tie it up with 1:39 to play. Neither team would score for the remainder of the game, so the teams would head into overtime all tied up 30-30.
In overtime, Kyndal Skersick made a pair of foul shots, but Storey hit a trey for PC to put them up 33-32. Allen took a pass from Miles and Storey made an insurance foul shot to give the Blue Hose the four-point road win.
