PC Fights Back for Overtime Win over Charleston Southern, 56-48

CHARLESTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College women's basketball team erased an 11-point deficit to get its second consecutive overtime win on Tuesday night over Charleston Southern at the Buc Dome, 56-48.

The Blue Hose improve to 15-13 overall and 10-9 in the Big South Conference with one game to play in the regular season coming up on Saturday against Winthrop. The Buccaneers fall to 5-23 on the year and 1-18 in conference play.

Aianna Kelly (Newport News, Va.) led the Blue Hose with 14 points, including an 8-for-10 performance from the foul line, and a season-high 13 rebounds. Cortney Storey (Fayetteville, Tenn.) chipped in 13 points and four assists, while Janie Miles (Clemson, S.C.) had 11 points.

Tatum Jarvis led the Buccaneers with 16 points, while Monique Maximilien had 12 rebounds for the hosts.

The Bucs opened the game with a 10-0 run before the Blue Hose broke the seal with two good foul shots by Kelly with 10:19 to play in the first half.

The Blue Hose cut it to five points (12-7) on a Noelle Carter (Neptune, N.J.) three-pointer, but the Bucs responded with back-to-back treys to take an 11-point lead (18-7) with 5:47 to play in the half.

PC scored a quick five points sparked by a trey by Storey and a layup by Rebecca Walker (Snellville, Ga.) on a long pass from Kelly, but the Bucs responded with a jumper and a three-pointer to stretch their lead back to 11 points.

The Blue Hose closed the half with seven unanswered points to cut it to four points, 23-19, at the break. Storey led PC with five points in the first half. Alise Karlsone had eight first-half points and Jarvis had seven for the Bucs.

PC opened the second half with a 7-2 run to take its first lead of the game, 26-25, with 16:09 to play in the contest. The Bucs scored on back-to-back buckets to take back the lead, but the Blue Hose tied it up three more times before scoring six unanswered points to take a 41-35 lead with 4:48 to play. Five good foul shots by the Bucs chipped it back to 41-40 with 3:15 remaining.

Miles broke PC's scoring drought with a three pointer, but Jarvis responded with one of her own to cut her team's deficit back to one, 44-43 with 2:06 remaining. Kelly had a 2-point jumper for the Blue Hose, but Alecia Hardy banked in a deep three with 1:39 to play to tie it up 46-46 at the end of regulation.

Storey made a jumper from the top of the key for two and Kelly and Keyonna Allen (Forest Park, Ga.) both went 2-for-2 at the foul line to get the visitors out to a 6-point, 52-46, lead with 28 seconds to play in overtime. Alyssa Mann scored on a circus layup to give the hosts their only points of the free period a few ticks later. Kelly and Storey each made a pair of free throws in the final 20 seconds to give the Blue Hose the eight-point comeback win.
