CLINTON, S.C.- The Presbyterian College men's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over the College of Charleston on Tuesday afternoon at the Templeton Tennis Courts.
The win marks the first victory over C of C in the PC men's tennis Division I era.
PC improves to 18-8 overall, while the Cougars fall to 13-9. PC will host Winthrop on Friday at 1 p.m. in the Big South Conference finale. The team will also host North Greenville at 6 p.m. in a night match that features live entertainment and the Pack the Pondo grand prize drawing.
The Blue Hose earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches against the Cougars. PC's No. 1 team of Alexander Lykou (Aarhus, Denmark) and Brandon Mills (Lilburn, Ga.) earned an 8-6 win over C of C's No. 1 duo of Brice Allanic and Alon Fairman. Diego Manzanas (Madrid, Spain) and Joel Roberts (Summerville, S.C.) won an 8-7 battle over Zack Lewis and Charlie Ghriskey at flight two, while Danny Bruce (Marietta, Ga.) and Ryan Miller (Norcross, Ga.) defeated Garrett Gordon and Josh Record 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
PC went on to win the next three singles matches against the College of Charleston as Mills bested Gordon 6-4, 6-2 at line six, Bruce won over Fairman 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, and Alejandro Bejar (Madrid, Spain) beat Ghriskey 6-1, 6-3 at line two.
The Cougars won the next three matches over PC, though. Lewis earned a 6-4, 6-4 win over Manzanas at No. 4 singles, Miller dropped a close one to Vasily Kichigin, 7-5, 6-4 at line three, and Allanic beat Roberts in three sets at No. 1 singles, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8.
