CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team knocked off The High Point Panthers 2-1 in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at Martin Stadium.
How it Happened
The first half yielded few scoring opportunities for either team. High Point had the best chance in the first half, but PC goalkeeper Connor Behrend came out to challenge the High Point forward, who had broken though the Blue Hose back line, and deflected the shot out of bounds. Mason Lewis finally broke the 0-0 tie with a goal in the 62nd minute. Lewis followed through on the ball after the ball bounced over the head of the keeper on a shot from Hunter Del Valle and tapped the ball into an open net. The Panthers knotted the game up in the 87th minute after Behrend made the initial save, but could not recover on the second shot. Cade Crow scored the golden goal in the 105th minute to give PC the win in the first Big South match of the season.
Man of the Match
Cade Crow's goal in the second overtime gave PC its first 1-0-0 start in conference play since 2012. Crow recorded two shots during the game.
Stat of the Game
Behrend's 10 saves were the most in a game for a Blue Hose keeper since Johnny Archer recorded 10 last Oct. against UNC Asheville.
Record
PC improves to 3-6-0 overall and 1-0-0 in Big South play, while High Point falls to 5-2-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference action.
