First Half Goals Lead PC to Win at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's soccer team defeated Gardner-Webb 2-0 at Greene-Harbison Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The win was their fifth in the Big South this season, a new program best.

 

How It Happened

 

Sergio Pinto wasted no time giving PC the lead. The junior forward scored just 2:46 into the game off an assist from Luca Ziegler.

 

In the 23rd minute, Jordan Barbara converted a penalty kick to record his fourth goal of the year and gave PC the two-goal lead.

 

Four minutes later, Adrian Edo Martin's penalty kick was saved by Gardner-Webb's Daniel Husa to keep it 2-0.

 

At the half, PC was leading 7-1 on shots and 5-0 on corner kicks.

 

Jan Hoffelner recorded a save in the 67th minute on a shot from Simen Olsen and in the 85th minute against Mads Rismoen. Those were Gardner-Webb's only shots on goal for the game.

 

Presbyterian College improved to 6-10 overall and 5-2 in the Big South. Gardner-Webb fell to 3-10-1 overall and 3-4 in Conference play.

 

Up Next

 

The Blue Hose will host No. 14 High Point on Wednesday, October 31, in a rematch of last season's Big South Championship game. It will be the regular season finale for both teams.
