Clinton, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team was defeated by Charleston Southern in a five set contest on Saturday. The Buccaneers bested the Blue Hose 27-25, 25-27, 14-25, 25-23, and 15-11.
Freshman Erin Cooke collected a team-high 16 kills with a .395 hitting percentage, tallied 26 assists, and was just shy of collecting her fourth triple-double with eight digs. Junior Erin Eulitz (13 kills, 18 digs) and freshman Lauren Talbert (10 kills, 14 digs) also recorded double-doubles. Senior Jaclyn Brewington picked up a team-high 30 assists and added 10 digs for an unconventional double-double. Sophomore Allie Wright had 10 kills and topped the team with seven total blocks. Classmate Taylor Farmer led the Blue Hose with 26 digs on the night. Sophomore Sydney De Jong and freshman Trinity Williams chipped in with eight kills apiece. De Jong also added six blocks.
The Blue Hose found themselves in a pair of tightly contested sets early on in the match. PC would find itself ahead of CSU in the first set, leading 11-8. The Bucs would tie the set at 13 and things would remain even until they took a two-point advantage at 21-19. The Blue Hose would score five of the next six points, but Charleston Southern would rally to take the set, 27-25. In the second set, it was a bit of a role reversal. The Buccaneers would take an early lead in the set and PC would come back to tie and eventually win the set to even the match at one set apiece.
Riding the momentum of the second set victory, PC would get out to a quick lead over CSU. They would expand that lead with a 5-1 scoring run in the middle of the set to take an 18-11 lead. The Blue Hose would use runs of three and four straight points to conclude the set, punctuated by a Talbert ace to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
The Blue Hose will travel to Radford for their next match on Tuesday night. PC will take on the Highlanders in a match that will featured as part of the Big South Network on ESPN+.
