Blue Hose Battle to 75-70 Win

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's basketball team used a 13-1 run late in the second half to break out from a back and forth game with the Aggies to take the 75-70 win over North Carolina A&T in Greensboro, N.C., Saturday afternoon. Adam Flagler led PC with 16 points, followed by Francois Lewis with 15.
Scoring the Game
The first half was a back and forth battle with neither team able to keep a lead for very long. The largest lead of the half by either team was four, with PC holding a 7-3 margin at 18:38 off a Flagler three-pointer. There were five ties in the first 20 minutes, the final one at 32-32, 5:12 to go, after Terry Harris hit a three-pointer to rally from a 29-32 deficit. A one-point game with 44 seconds to go, 36-37, off back to back Cory Hightower free throws, the Aggies closed out the half with two free throws by Kameron Langley to go into the locker room leading 39-36. For the half, the Blue Hose hit seven three-pointers, compared to 10 for North Carolina A&T. The Aggies shot 50% from the field, with PC hitting just over 40%.
The Aggies built a 45-40 lead the opening five minutes of the second half, the largest lead of any team up to that point. The lead was short lived as Lewis scored five unanswered, including a three-pointer at 13:37, to tie the game at 45-45. After a Ronald Jackson dunk gave the Aggies back the lead, Lewis stepped up again with a three-pointer at 12:29 to give the Blue Hose the 48-47 lead. A Chris Martin lay-up made it 50-47 at 11:51, as part of a 10-2 PC run.
A small 4-0 run, which included a Harris three at 10:11, gave the Aggies back the lead at 51-50, but Kody Shubert responded with a three-pointer himself at 9:40 as PC retook the two-point lead, 53-51. NCAT came back with a six unanswered to make it 57-53 at 7:36, in favor of the home team. Romeo Crouch hit a three-pointer at 7:31 to kick off a 6-1 run to tie it up at 59-59, 6:20 left. PC extended the run to 13-1 to build its biggest lead of the game, 66-59, 4:09 ticks left. The Aggies cut the lead to three, 64-67, helped by an Aaren Edmead three at 3:16, but PC came back with four unanswered to keep the 71-67 lead, 2:20 on the clock.
North Carolina A&T fought back with a three-pointer with 32 seconds remaining to cut the margin to one, 70-71. The game came down to free throws with Martin hitting two with 22 second left, to make it 73-70. Harris missed a three with nine seconds left, with JC Younger hitting two more frees with six seconds left to help seal the 75-70 win.
Players of the Game
Flagler led the Blue Hose with 16 points, followed by Lewis with 15. Younger followed with 11 points, which included a three-for-three effort from the perimeter. Martin pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds with Hightower just one behind with six. Davon Bell added six assists. Harris led NCAT with 27 points and six rebounds. He was eight-of-11 from the three-point arc.
Stats of the Game
The Blue Hose shot 44.2% from the field and hit 12 three-pointers, as well as 17 free throws, while the Aggies hit 45.1%, with 15 three-pointers and nine free throws. PC held the rebounding edge, 34-20, and had two more turnovers, 11-9.
