CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team recorded its first Big South victory of the season with a 4-3 win over Gardner-Webb on Thursday at the Templeton Tennis Center. The Blue Hose improved to 1-1 in conference play, while the Bulldogs remained winless in Big South play at 0-5.
PC claimed the doubles point with a sweep of the three matches. Alejandro Bejar and Jaime Castillo-Lopez got it started with a 6-0 win at No. 2, followed by a 6-2 win at No. 3 by Daniel Stenger and Will Baird. Brandon Mills and Alexander Lykou capped it off with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
Singles proved a battle with the two teams splitting the six matches. Stenger got it started with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5, followed by a Bejar victory at No. 3, 6-1, 6-4, to put PC up 3-0. GWU pulled back within a point with wins on courts one and six to make it 3-2.
Mills clinched the match for PC though with a three-set win at No. 2, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, to make it 4-2. GWU held off a PC rally at No. 4 for a three-set win there to make it a 4-3 final.
PC returns to on Wednesday, March 28, with a trip to UNC Asheville for a 3 p.m. match.
