PC Falls at UNC Asheville, 4-3

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team fell in a close match at UNC Asheville, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon in Asheville, N.C. The Blue Hose fall to 1-2 in league play, while the Bulldogs drew even at 2-2 against Big South foes.

Asheville claimed the doubles point with wins on courts two and three, taking the early 1-0 lead. The two then split the six singles matches, each taking three. UNCA's Henry Patten, ranked 69th nationally, recorded a win at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, for his fourth straight win, making it a 2-0 lead. A win at No. 6 for Asheville made it 3-0 but PC rallied to win the next three and tie it.

Daniel Stenger got PC on the board with a 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 5, remaining unbeaten in Big South play at 3-0. Jaime Castillo-Lopez followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 for his second conference victory. Alejandro Bejar then came away with a three-set win at No. 3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, drawing the match to a 3-3 tie.

The match hinged on a three-set battle at No. 2, between Brandon Mills and Asheville's Oli Nolan. Nolan came away with set one, 6-2, but Mills forced a third with a 6-4 second. Nolan would rally back to claim the third set in narrow fashion, 6-4, and give the Bulldogs the 4-3 win.

PC returns to action this weekend, opening a six-match homestand on Friday against Longwood, now set for a noon start. The Blue Hose then host Radford at noon on Saturday.
