CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team opened Big South play on Friday night with a four set victory over Hampton inside the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose won 26-24, 24-26, 25-20, 25-23.
Freshman Erin Cooke led the attack with 13 kills while adding three blocks. Classmate Trinity Williams added 11 kills and a block. Junior Erin Eulitz added nine kills, 11 digs and four blocks with sophomore Allie Wright adding nine kills and five blocks to the victory. Sophomore Sierra Jones had a team-high 24 assists while senior Jaclyn Brewington added 19 assists. Redshirt junior Daley Gosnell led PC with 18 digs.
The two team battled throughout the opening set as the set featured eight ties and three lead changes. Hampton took its biggest lead of the set with a 21-16 lead late in the set before the Blue Hose closed on a 10-3 run to take the opener, 26-24.
Set two started similarly to the opening set as both teams battled even throughout with the two teams trading points from start to finish. The hosts got it back to a 24-24 tie late in the set before Hampton took down the Blue Hose by the same 26-24 margin.
In the third set, the two teams battled to a 6-all tie in the opening of the set before PC rattled off a 9-4 run to take a 15-10 lead in the stanza and never look back on its way to a 25-20 set victory. Blue Hose hit a match high .379 in the third set highlighted by Williams with five kills and a .625 hitting percentage.
PC jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth set and was able to outlast the Pirates as they picked up their first big south victory of the season. In the set, Cooke led the way with seven kills and a .667 hitting percentage.
