Clinton, S.C. - The Presbyterian College volleyball team earned their second win in Big South play on Saturday night, downing Campbell in four sets. The Blue Hose defeated the Camels 27-25, 12-25, 25-16, 25-17.
Freshman Lauren Talbert led the way for PC offensively with 13 kills, including five in the match-clinching fourth set. Classmate Erin Cooke chipped in with 11 kills and paced the Blue Hose with six kills in the final set. She also added 14 assists. Sophomore Sierra Jones tallied a team-high 22 assists in the match. Redshirt junior Daley Gosnell picked up 13 digs. Sophomore Sydney De Jong recorded six total blocks and six kills.
The Blue Hose started strong in the first set, taking a quick 10-4 lead, their largest lead of the set. The Camels would fight to even the set at 16. Following the tie score, the Blue Hose would win the next three points to give themselves a bit of breathing room. The Camels would once again claw their way back and force a 25-25 tie. The Blue Hose would take the next two points and the first set.
In the third set, PC would quickly get out to a 9-5 lead, changing the momentum from the second set, to force a Campbell timeout. The Blue Hose would force the Camels to take their second timeout quickly, as the Blue Hose extended their lead to 15-6, their largest lead of the night. The Blue Hose would win four straight points twice to get this point and would also win the final four points of the set to take a 2-1 lead.
The Blue Hose and the Camels started the fourth set with back and forth scoring. For the first half of the set, neither team held a lead larger than two points and the score was tied on 11 seperate occasions. However, PC quickly turned a switch after the score became knotted up at 15. The Blue Hose would win 10 of the final 12 points to take home their second Big South victory in as many days.
The Blue Hose will hit the road next weekend for a pair of conference match-ups. PC will visit Winthrop on Friday night and take on Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon.
