PC Falls to Top Seed Winthrop in Big South Semifinals

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The fourth-seeded Presbyterian College volleyball team saw its 2019 season come to an end on Saturday as it fell 3-0 (25-9, 25-22, 25-20) to top-seeded Winthrop in the Big South Conference Championship Semifinals.
 
The Blue Hose end the season at 15-15, the program's most wins since 2007. The Eagles improve to 23-4 and advance to Sunday's championship match, where they will face the winner of the second semifinal tilt between No. 2 High Point and No. 3 Campbell.
 
Notables
- Sierra Jones registered her fourth double-double of the season, leading PC in both assists (13) and digs (11).
- In her final match as a Blue Hose, senior Erin Eulitz had 10 digs. She finishes her career third in PC's DI era in career digs (1406), and inside the top-10 in career attack attempts, kills and service aces.
- Erin Cooke and Trinity Williams paced the Blue Hose attack with five kills apiece. Williams added 10 digs.
- Lauren Talbert notched four kills and eight digs.
- Allie Wright tallied three kills and five digs, while also leading the Blue Hose with three blocks and a pair of aces.
 
How it Happened
- PC held a 3-2 edge early in the first set before Winthrop ripped off a 14-2 spurt to go on top, 16-5. The Blue Hose got the margin back to single-digits at 17-8, but the Eagles used an 8-1 surge to close out the opening set.
- Winthrop built a 9-6 lead at the start of the second set, but a 4-0 Presbyterian run gave the Blue Hose a 10-9 edge. The Eagles responded with a 5-1 spurt to regain their three-point advantage, 14-11. PC drew back even on three occasions, including 22-22, but the Eagles tallied the final three points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
- Ahead 15-13 in the third set, the Eagles expanded their lead to 19-13 with a 4-0 run. Presbyterian got to within four on a couple occasions, but Winthrop held on to seal its place in the championship match.
