PC Men Drop Season Opener at Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College men's basketball team dropped its season opener 79-45 at Clemson on Thursday evening at Littlejohn Coliseum. Chris Martin led the Blue Hose with a career-high tying 11 points.

Scoring the Game
Clemson opened the contest with a 7-1 run, then used a 14-point spurt, fueled by four three-pointers, to stretch the margin to 21-5 with 10:01 remaining until the half. PC answered with a 9-2 run to trim the deficit to single-digits, 23-14, at the 6:28 mark. The Tigers scored the final eight points of the half to take a 43-21 lead into the locker room. The hosts put the game beyond reach early in the second half, extending the margin to 59-25 with 13:56 on the clock.
 
Players of the Game
Martin added a team-high four assists, game-high three steals and four rebounds to go with his team-leading 11 points. JC Younger and Ben Drake had eight points apiece, and Drake topped PC with seven rebounds. The eight points and seven rebounds were both career highs for Drake. John Newman III paced the Tigers with a game-high 16 points.
 
Stats of the Game
The Blue Hose struggled from the field, shooting 35 percent (18-51) from the floor, while Clemson hit 46 percent (31-67) of its field goal attempts. PC was held to just 5-18 (28 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Tigers connected on 14-of-34 (41 percent) of their three-pointers. Clemson held a 39-35 edge on the glass and was plus-nine in turnover margin.
