Blue Hose Fall Short at Gardner-Webb

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team was defeated by Gardner-Webb on Wednesday afternoon, 7-0. The loss moves the Blue Hose to 10-12 on the season, 2-2 against Big South opponents.

“Tough loss today. Gardner-Webb deserves a lot of credit for how they battled,” said head coach Patrick Fediuk.

Max Benson and Jaime Castillo-Lopez picked up the lone win for PC on court two in doubles play. The duo defeated their opponents 6-4. The pairing of Daniel Stenger and Oscar Alvarez took on the #74 doubles team in the country, falling 6-1.

Benson faced the #107 singles player in the nation on court two in singles play. The freshman won the first set, 6-2, but dropped the match. Elias Svensson took his opponent to a tiebreaker in the first set, but ended up losing the match in straight sets.

“It stinks to lose, especially when we were up in a lot of sets, but I believe in this group,” continued Fediuk. “We are working hard, the guys are invested, and they care.”
