Talbert-Led Blue Hose Clipped By Friars

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Sophomore Lauren Talbert registered a match-high 10 kills, but the Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-20, 25-16, 25-18) to Providence in its second match of the day on Friday evening at the Eagle Challenge. The Blue Hose record sits at 1-4, while the Friars are 3-2.

 

Notables

-Talbert has recorded double-digit kills twice in the last three matches, and has led the Blue Hose in kills twice this season.

-Senior Erin Eulitz's 13 digs led the Blue Hose, bringing her career total to 974. The Joliet, Ill. native is eight digs shy of moving into fifth in PC's DI era (2007-present) career record book.

-Junior Sierra Jones handed out a team-leading 11 assists, bringing her career total to 978.

-Sophomore Erin Cooke collected 10 assists and chipped in seven digs. Both Jones and Cooke have recorded double-digit helpers in each of PC's five contests.

-Sophomore Samantha Stanko recorded her first collegiate start for the Blue Hose.

 

How it Happened

-Presbyterian held a 14-11 advantage near the midway point of the opening set, but a 7-0 run put Providence on top 18-14. The Blue Hose rattled off the next three points to get back within one, but a four-point spurt by the Friars helped put the first set away.

-The Friars jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the second set. After PC trimmed the deficit to four at 11-7, Providence extended the advantage back out to eight with a 5-1 spurt. The Blue Hose whittled the margin to five on multiple occasions, but the Friars sealed the set with a 4-0 run.

-The final set featured eight ties in the early going, with the final one coming at 15-15. Providence then seized control with a 7-0 run, which fueled a 10-3 match-clinching outburst.

The Blue Hose conclude their weekend at the Eagle Challenge on Saturday afternoon as they take on Georgia State at 2:00 pm.
