Carter's Career-High Leads PC To Big South Victory

Boiling Springs, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team used a 7-0 run over the final 3:30 to secure a 56-53 Big South victory on Tuesday night over Gardner-Webb at Paul Porter Arena in Boiling Springs, N.C. Tionna Carter set a new career-high with 13 points, while Trinity Johnson added 11 points. Alessia Capley along with Carter and Johnson led PC with six rebounds apiece. The Runnin' Bulldogs were led by Savannah Plentovich with 11 points.

Scoring The Game
PC got out to an early 5-0 lead which was capped by Johnson burying a three at 8:05. Gardner-Webb then went on a pair of 7-2 runs throughout the remainder of the first quarter to take an eight-point lead,17-9, to the start of the second quarter.

The Blue Hose cut the deficit to three, 17-14, after Shamani Stafford buried a three at 8:36. After a three by GWU, Presbyterian went on a 9-2 burst over the next five minutes capped off by a Tess Santos three which gave PC the 23-22 lead. The Blue Hose pushed the lead to five down the stretch to lead 29-24 at halftime.

Gardner-Webb used a 7-0 run over 2:09 to even the game up at 33 with 6:41 to go in the third. Bria Gibbs scored a quick layup to thwart the Runnin' Bulldogs' run and put PC back in the lead, 35-33. The game remained close over the next three minutes and was tied at 37 and 39 before another three from Stafford pushed PC out in front, 42-39, with 3:07 on the clock. Le'Mesha Madden pushed it to a five-point edge, 44-39, before GWU was able to cut the lead back to just one headed into the fourth, 44-43.

Lauren Bevis hit a three twice in the fourth quarter to regain the lead for Gardner-Webb, the second time making it a 49-47 contest with 6:30 to play. A pair of free throws from Plentovich stretched the deficit for PC to four points, 53-49, with 4:32 to play. Presbyterian battled back with a three from Santos and layup from Carter to spark a 7-0 run over the final 3:30 to secure the 56-53 win on Tuesday night.

Players of the Game
Tionna Carter led PC with a career-high 13 points as she made a career-high five field goals. Trinity Johnson added 11 points, while also pulling down six rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Savannah Plentovich led the Runnin' Bulldogs with 11 points as she also added five rebounds and five assists.

Notables
- Shamani Stafford added nine points off the bench as she connected on three three pointers.
- Alessia Capley had eight points to go along with six rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks in her second straight start of the season.
- Trinity Johnson had five steals for her third game this season with 5+ steals.

Presbyterian shot 45%, compared to Gardner-Webb shooting 32% as both teams buried six three pointers. The Blue Hose had a 37-31 advantage in the rebounding battle. PC had a 10-point advantage on the Runnin' Bulldogs in points in the paint at 28-18.
