Late Rally Spoils Baseball Home Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome a late Eastern Kentucky rally as the Colonels picked up a 10-9 victory on Friday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex. Senior Eric Miles racked up eight strikeouts on the mound over seven innings, At the plate, freshman Landon Shaw connected on a three-run home run in his PC debut in the second inning.

NOTABLES
- David Sweat and Jimmy Marcelli led the offensive attack with two hits apiece.
- Freshman Landon Shaw, in his first career at-bat, connected on a three-run home run that gave PC the early lead in the second inning. Shaw had a game-high four RBIs in the contest.
- Kyle Decker added a pair of RBIs off of a fielder's choice in the third.
- Senior Eric Miles racked up eight strikeouts over seven innings.
- Sweat, Decker and Shaw all made their Blue Hose debuts in Friday's season opener.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The guests got on the board in the opening inning with a solo home run to left-center for the early 1-0 lead.
- EKU extended its lead in the second with its second solo home run of the game to take the 2-0 lead.
- Following a walk to Andrew Livingston and a single from Kyle Decker, freshman Landon Shaw connected on a three-run shot to give PC the 3-2 lead thru two.
- After EKU evened the score at three, Presbyterian responded with four in its half of the third with a pair of them coming off of bases loaded walks to give them a 7-3 lead.
- The Blue Hose tacked on a run in the fourth after Sweat got caught between first and second which allowed Zacchaeus Rasberry to come into score and make it 8-3.
- Both teams traded runs in the fifth with that score holding over the next three innings.
- Eastern Kentucky added six runs in the ninth to give them the 10-9 lead it wouldn't relinquish and lead them to the victory on Friday.

- The Blue Hose return to the diamond on Saturday afternoon for a 2 pm first pitch against Eastern Kentucky at the PC Baseball Complex.
