Greene Fires Another Shutout as PC Splits in Madeira Beach

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Jenna Greene hurled a complete game two-hit shutout as the Presbyterian College softball team beat Georgia State 4-0 in its first contest at THE Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla., on Friday. The Blue Hose fell 7-3 to Monmouth in their second game of the day.

NOTABLES
- Greene racked up six strikeouts over her seven scoreless frames. The righty held the Panthers hitless through the first 5.1 innings of the game.
- The freshman has gone the distance in each of her first three collegiate starts, two of which have been shutouts.
- Courtney White led the Presbyterian offense with four hits for the day, collecting two in each game, while Jaiden Tweed had three hits.
- Tweed and Hunter Meadows scored in both games, while Lexi Palazzo drove in a run in both contests.
- Making her season debut, Grace Wallace got the nod behind the plate in game two and collected a pair of hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Tweed and Meadows started the game with back-to-back knocks, and Palazzo followed with a sacrifice fly to give PC the lead, just three batters into the contest. The Blue Hose tacked on two more later in the frame on an error and a Lath Freeman RBI single.
- With two on and no outs in the top of the fourth for Presbyterian, the game was halted for about 20 minutes due to heavy rain. Once play resumed, Meadows made it 4-0 Blue Hose with a sacrifice fly which plated Katelyn Petty.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- After Monmouth scored a run in the top of the first, Palazzo singled in a run in the home half to knot the score at 1-1.
- The Hawks regained the lead with two in the top of the second. PC got one back in the bottom of the inning on a Tweed run-scoring single.
- In the fifth, a three-run homer by MU's Erika Coreth extended the Hawks' advantage to 6-2.
- Monmouth added its final run of the evening in the seventh.
- Kiley Kross brought in a run with an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-3. The Blue Hose loaded the bases with two outs to bring the tying run to the plate, but Monmouth's Christine Frazee halted the rally to earn the save.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose continue play at THE Spring Games with two more games on Saturday. Presbyterian begins the day against Central Arkansas at 11 am, then faces Mercer at 4 pm.
