Greene, Johnson Lead Blue Hose to Shutout of Mercer

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Freshman Layna Johnson belted her first collegiate homer and fellow freshman Jenna Greene tossed a shutout for the second straight day, as Presbyterian College blanked Mercer 4-0 on Saturday at THE Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla. The Blue Hose fell 9-3 to Central Arkansas in their first contest of the day.

NOTABLES
- Greene blanked Mercer on five hits over seven innings while fanning five.
- The freshman has gone the distance in each of her four starts, compiling three shutouts. She has yielded one run over 27.0 innings this season, and has not allowed a run in her last 14.1 innings.
- In addition to her first collegiate home run, Johnson drove in a pair and scored twice against MU. She scored a total of three times on Saturday.
- Jaiden Tweed and Kiley Kross hit safely in both games for the Blue Hose.
- Kross' day included a two-run homer in game one. The sophomore has picked up a hit in each of PC's first eight games.
- Alexis Meadows picked up her first RBI as a Blue Hose with a sacrifice fly against Mercer.
- Presbyterian was held to a season-low two hits against Central Arkansas.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Central Arkansas used the long ball to take the lead in the second, hitting three home runs as part of a seven-run frame.
- Presbyterian got one back in the fifth, as Johnson scored on an error.
- Kross pulled the Blue Hose within four in the sixth with a two-run shot, her second home run of the year.
- Central Arkansas answered with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to conclude the contest's scoring.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Johnson led off the second inning with a walk, and eventually scored on an Alexis Meadows sacrifice fly to put PC on top, 1-0.
- With two outs in the third, Courtney White kept the inning alive with an infield single, and Johnson followed with a two-run homer to center field.
- The Bears loaded the bases in the fourth, but Greene escaped unscathed.
- Presbyterian tacked on its last run in the bottom of the fourth, as Hunter Meadows brought home Katelyn Petty.
- Mercer loaded the bases again in the sixth, but once again Greene turned the Bears away.
