Five-Run Third Downs Blue Hose On Sunday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Colonels used a five-run third to complete the three-game sweep of the Presbyterian College baseball team on Sunday with a 10-4 victory in seven innings at the PC Baseball Complex. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness. Graham Mitchell led the offense with two hits including a double.

NOTABLES
- Senior Graham Mitchell led the offense with a pair of hits including a double in the sixth inning on Sunday.
- Freshman Landon Shaw and Senior Jimmy Marcelli added base hits in the contest. Both Shaw and Marcelli had hits in all three games on the weekend.
- Freshman Kyle Merkle, in the sixth inning, connected on his first career home run over the right centerfield fence.
- Junior Willie Gordon picked up an RBI single in his first career at-bat as a Blue Hose.
- Junior Kyle Benson in his first career appearance as a Blue Hose racked up five strikeouts over 4.0 innings.
- Sunday's game started an 1:45 late due to rain in and around the Clinton area on Sunday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Colonels got on the board first in the first inning taking advantage of a PC fielding error to take the early 1-0 lead.
- PC tied it in its half of the first with heads up base running from David Sweat as he raced home, while Marcelli was in a run down to even the game at one.
- EKU plated five runs in the third inning to push the lead out to 6-1 after 2.5 innings.
- The guests added a pair in the fourth off of a sacrifice fly and RBI single to push their advantage to 8-1.
- In the sixth, Merkle's solo home run got the offense going and was followed up by an RBI single from Gordon to push it to 8-3.
- The Blue Hose added a run off of a sacrifice fly to make it 8-4 thru six.
- Eastern Kentucky added a pair of runs in the seventh to push the Colonels to a 10-4 victory as the game was called after seven due to darkness.

 
UP NEXT
- The Blue Hose hit the road for the first time in 2020 with a Wednesday afternoon matchup against South Carolina set for 4 pm. The game will be broadcast on SEC Network + and on the radio side on Fox Sports 98.3 FM.
