Late Campbell Surge Lifts Camels to Win over Blue Hose

Trinity Johnson paced the team with 13 points

A four point game at the end of the third period, Campbell outscored the Presbyterian College women's basketball team, 19-9, in the fourth to pull away for the 56-42 win in Big South action in Buies Creek, N.C.Trinity Johnson led the Blue Hose with 13 points, while Jade Compton pulled down a team-leading nine rebounds.

Scoring The Game
Presbyterian took a 4-0 lead at 7:38 with opening baskets from Tionna Carter and Trinity Johnson. The Camels got on the board with back-to-back threes from Kianna Speight and Luana Serranho to tie the game, 6-6, with 6:00 on the clock. Shamani Stafford answered with a three for the Blue Hose minutes later, giving PC a 9-8 lead. The quarter ended with a fastbreak layup from Alessia Capley that gave PC a 13-12 lead. The second quarter was low scoring, with Campbell taking a 20-19 lead into the locker room.

The Blue Hose used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to take a three-point lead, 29-25, following four free throws from Johnson and a three-pointer from Stafford. Speight answered with a pair of three-pointers as the Camels ended the quarter on a 12-4 run to take a 37-33 lead into the fourth quarter.

PC and Campbell traded baskets to open the fourth period, a Johnson layup at 5:06 making it a three-point game, 41-38, in favor of the Camels. The home team scored a quick five in a row before Carter's basket at 2:05 cut the margin to six.  That would be the last score for PC until the closing seconds as Camel pulled away with 10 unanswered, six coming from the charity stripe, to take a 16-point lead with under 10 seconds to play.  Tess Santos' jumper as time expired cut it to the final 14-point loss, 42-56.

Players of the Game
Luana Serranho led Campbell on offense with 21 points and a seven-for-seven effort from the free throw line. Taya Bolden led the team on the boards with six rebounds. Trinity Johnson was tops in points for PC with 13, her 24th double-digit game of the season, while Jade Compton recorded a team-high nine rebounds.

Notables
- Shamani Stafford was 3-of-5 from distance to score nine points. 
- With the win Campbell secured the Big South regular season title.

Stats of the Game
PC shot 33.3% from the field, and was five-of-eight from the charity stripe, while Campbell shot 44.2%, including 50% in the last two periods, while hitting 12-of-13 from the free throw line. The Blue Hose held the rebounding edge 30-29, and posted one more turnover, 17-16.

For the Record
PC dropped to 10-18 overall and 6-13 in the Big South, while Campbell improved to 21-6, 16-2.
