Blue Hose Blank Bulldogs 8-0 on Sunday

CLINTON, S.C. – A balanced offensive attack and a complete game shutout from Haley Haselden helped the Presbyterian College softball team beat South Carolina State 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Blue Hose Invitational at the PC Softball Complex.

NOTABLES
- Haselden picked up her first win as a Blue Hose, limiting SC State to three hits while fanning eight in five innings. The righty retired the final seven batters she faced.
- Jaiden Tweed continued her hot start to the season, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs. The sophomore went 7-for-15 (.467) for the weekend.
- Lath Freeman, Layna Johnson and Courtney White had two hits apiece, with Freeman and Johnson each registering the first two RBIs of their collegiate careers.
- Kiley Kross reached all three times she came to the plate, with one hit and a pair of walks. The sophomore also scored twice, and has reached base in 11 of her 13 plate appearances thus far in 2020.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Presbyterian opened the scoring with two in the bottom of the first on back-to-back run-scoring knocks by Kross and Johnson.
- The Blue Hose added three more in the third on a Johnson RBI single and a Freeman two-run single.
- White led off the fourth with a triple, then scored on a Tweed sacrifice fly to extend the advantage to 6-0.
- After Presley Bissett scored to up the margin to seven in the bottom of the fifth, Tweed ended the game for the second straight day, singling in Madison DeGennaro to give the Blue Hose the victory.
 
UP NEXT
Presbyterian heads down to Madeira Beach, Fla., from Feb. 14-16 to take part in the THE Spring Games. PC's stretch of five games in three days begins on Friday, with contests against Georgia State at 4 pm and Monmouth at 6:30 pm.
