Men's Tennis Edged 4-3 at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Presbyterian College men's tennis team had another contest come down to the final match, but ultimately fell short, dropping a 4-3 decision at UNCG on Thursday.

"We lost another tough one today," said head coach Eduardo Rincon. "I'm proud of the way the team competed. It was a great match, but unfortunately UNCG pulled ahead late and got the win."
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the two teams split the first two doubles matches, UNCG won at the No. 3 position to seal the doubles point.
- The Spartans extended their edge to 2-0 with a win at No. 4 singles.
- Straight-set victories by Jonathan Bedard at No. 6 and Oscar Alvarez at No. 3 drew the Blue Hose level.
- Daniel Stenger put Presbyterian on top 3-2 with a three-set victory at No. 2.
- UNCG evened the contest with a three-set victory on court No. 5, then clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 1.
 
NOTABLES
- Stenger picked up a pair of wins for PC on the day, teaming up with Max Benson for a win at No. 2 doubles, and winning in three sets at No. 2 singles.
- Alvarez grabbed his team-leading seventh singles victory of the season.
- Benson improved to 8-4 in doubles play this season. His eight doubles wins and 14 combined wins lead Presbyterian.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose were slated to open Big South Conference play on Saturday at Campbell, however the Big South announced earlier on Thursday that all athletic competition for conference members is suspended through Sunday, March 15. Presbyterian is now slated to open conference play on Thursday, March 19 at home against UNC Asheville.
