Volleyball Drops Midweek Matchup to Spartans

CLINTON, S.C. –  Erin Cooke totaled her 14th double-double (13 kills, 14 assists) but the Presbyterian College volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 20-25,14-25) on Tuesday night inside the Templeton Center.

Notables
 - Cooke led the Blue Hose attack on Tuesday with 13 kills as the senior added 14 assists for her 14th double-double of the year. She also added eight digs, two aces, and a pair of blocks in defeat.
- Freshman Rylee Moorhead added her seventh double-double of the year with 10 kills and 16 digs.
- Anna Hewitt led the defense with 24 digs for the Blue Hose libero's eighth game this season with 20+ digs.
- Fifth-year senior Sierra Jones added a team-high 16 assists while picking up nine digs.
 
How it Happened 
 - USC Upstate got out to an early 5-3 lead before a 7-4 spurt gave PC the small 10-9 advantage in the opening set on Tuesday night. Both teams tied four times with the Spartans taking a 15-14 advantage to the media timeout. The Blue Hose used a pair of points from Wright along with a Moorhead to take a 21-19 advantage and force a Spartan timeout. Upstate used a 4-1 burst to force a PC timeout that the Blue Hose put to good use with a 3-0 finish to win set one 25-23.
- Presbyterian raced out to an early 9-4 advantage in the second set which forced the guests to spend their first timeout.  The Spartans took advantage of the timeout with a 9-3 run to take a 13-12 lead and force the Blue Hose to take a timeout. Presbyterian pushed past the Spartans down the stretch to take a 21-19 advantage late in set two before a 6-0 burst by Upstate gave them a 25-21 win.
- The Blue Hose jumped on the Spartans to begin set three with an 8-2 run to begin the set and forced an early timeout from Upstate. USC Upstate responded with a 12-3 spurt to take a 14-11 lead in the set forcing PC to spend a timeout. The guests pushed the lead to six on two occasions with the last coming at 23-17 as the Blue Hose were able to cut into the lead but get no closer than four as Upstate won the set 25-20.
- In the fourth set, USC Upstate jumped out to an early 11-4 advantage over Presbyterian. The Spartans continued to put the pressure on PC as they pushed the lead to 12, 20-8 en route to a 25-14 set victory and match win.

 - The Blue Hose begins a three-game road swing on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as PC heads to UNC Asheville to face the Bulldogs. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
