Three PC Players Scored as Blue Hose Tied Gardner-Webb

CLINTON, S.C. – Niklas Hoener, Alex Guzman, and Voro Rivera Peris scored goals for Presbyterian as the Blue Hose (6-5-3, Big South: 2-3-2) tied the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (3-11-1, Big South: 2-4-1), 3-3, at Martin Stadium tonight.

COACH POTTER'S THOUGHTS
"I am proud of how the team came back from a difficult situation to fight with ten men to secure a point in league play," Presbyterian coach Jonathan Potter said. "I am proud of the team for how we handled adversity. Also, to score three goals is always good. We have to bounce back with a very important home game on Wednesday."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the 33rd minute, Presbyterian's Lenni Mierow threw the ball into Hoener who blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from 20 yards for the game's first score. Hoener's goal was his first of the season.
  • In the 44th minute, Gardner-Webb's Sebastian Reventlow tied the score at one with a goal off an assist by Odal Brown.
  • In the 59th minute, a Gardner-Webb defender miscleared the ball finding Guzman at the top of the box. Guzman blasted a shot just inside the right post giving the Blue Hose a 2-1 lead. Guzman's goal was his first of the season.
  • In the 66th minute, Gardner-Webb's Ryan Madondo scored off a Samuel Catherall assist tying the score at two.
  • In the 71st minute, Mierow found Rivera Peris at the top of the box. Rivera Peris put a beautiful shot into the back of the net giving the Blue Hose a 3-2 lead. Rivera Peris' goal was his first of the season.
  • Just under a minute later, Presbyterian's Connor Hudson was issued a red card which gave the Runnin' Bulldogs a man advantage the rest of the game. Then, Gardner-Webb tied the score when Owen Zaldivar scored off a Hendrik Kortgodde assist in the 72nd minute.

NOTES
  • Presbyterian finished the game with 13 shots and six corner kicks. Ndrin Maloku led the Blue Hose with five shots. Nacho Gallego and Nile Nguidjol tallied two shots apiece. Guzman, Hoener, Rivera Peris, and Daniel Anani each contributed a shot to the Blue Hose offensive attack.
