Blue Hose Set to Open PFL Home Slate on Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College football team returns home for its Pioneer Football League opener on Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hose welcome in Morehead State for a 1 p.m. kick at Bailey Memorial Stadium. Saturday's game will be shown on ESPN+. The matchup with the Eagles will also be First Responders Day as any first responders will receive complimentary tickets courtesy of the game sponsor Self Regional Healthcare.

Last Time Out
• The Presbyterian College football team was unable to overcome a 28-point second quarter from Dayton as the hosts picked up a 63-43 victory in both teams league opener on Saturday afternoon at Welcome Stadium.
• Delvecchio Powell recorded his first multi-touchdown game of his Blue Hose career on Saturday afternoon. It was the first multi-touchdown rushing game for a PC rusher since April 17, 2021, by Jarius Jeter. Powell totaled a career-high 131 rushing yards.
 
Last Time Against Morehead State
• Presbyterian opened the 2021 spring slate against the Eagles with a 31-16 victory over Morehead State inside Bailey Memorial Stadium.
• Running Back Delvecchio Powell totaled 104 yards and a touchdown in his first career 100+ yard performance of the Pooler, Ga. native's PC career.
Matthew Rivera totaled 116 receiving yards and a touchdown in the victory.
• PC got out to a fast start on Saturday as it recorded points (three touchdowns, one field goal) on four of its first six possessions. 
 
Opponent Profile
• Morehead State enters play on Saturday with a 2-2 record following an overtime victory against Dayton last time out.
• The Eagles are led offensively by Mark Pappas who has totaled 1,228 yards with 12 touchdowns thru the air.
• Issiah Aguero leads the ground game with 100 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
• BJ Byrd paces the receivers for MSU with 35 catches for a total of 465 yards and six touchdowns.
• On the defensive side, Vaughn Taylor has a team-high 28 tackles including 11.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. Taylor has also recorded 3.5 sacks.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks
• Freshman Jalyn Witcher currently sits second in all of FCS with six receiving touchdowns.
Matthew Rivera ranks ninth in NCAA with 105.5 receiving yards per contest.
• Redshirt sophomore quarterback Ren Hefley is fourth in all of FCS with 372.2 passing yards per game and is third in passing scores with 17 on the year. He also checks in seventh with 1,489 passing yards.
• As a team, the Blue Hose are second in FCS with 438.5 passing yards per game and are second in scoring offense at 48.8.

Receivers Racking Up the Yards
• The Blue Hose have had 23 different players record at least one catch which included 21 players in the season opener against St. Andrews. 
Matthew Rivera leads the team with 422 yards of receiving on 22 catches. Rivera has totaled four touchdowns and has eclipsed 100 yards on three occasions.
• Freshman Jalyn Witcher has a team-high 23 catches to go along with 338 yards and a team-high six touchdowns. Witcher has a pair of 100 yard games on the year.
Kiaran Turner has 247 yards receiving and a pair of scores as Turner had 100+ yards against Fort Lauderdale week two.
Ren Hefley's 10 touchdowns in the opener against St. Andrews were spread around to eight different pass catchers on Saturday.
 
Airing it Out
• Hefley is pacing an offensive attack that is averaging 441 passing yards per game in PC's first two contests. Hefley has totaled 1767 yards thru the air while recording 17 touchdowns during the 2021 season.
 
Record Breaking Debut
• In Kevin Kelley's debut the Presbyterian College offense lit up the scoreboard in record breaking fashion. Ren Hefley totaled a DI School record 39 pass completions for 576 yards which ranks second in the same record book. 
• Hefley also totaled a DI school record 10 passing scores with three of those going to freshman Jalyn Witcher who tied a single-game DI record.
• Witcher's 156 yards receiving ranked fourth in the DI single-game record book.
• As a team, Presbyterian totaled a DI record 51 completions, 669 passing yards, 10 passing scores, 94 total offensive plays and 814 total offensive yards.
 
Kelley Set to Lead the Blue Hose
• After coaching Pulaski Academy to nine state titles and totaling 200 wins in 18 seasons, Kevin Kelley is set to lead the Blue Hose beginning in the fall of 2021.
• Kelley was the offensive coordinator for six years at Pulaski before being named head coach of the Bruins.
• Under his tutelage, Kelley's players and teams have broken 15 national high school football records while compiling a 216-29-1 mark.
• Kelley approaches the game of football differently, as documented by media outlets such as ESPN, HBO Real Sports and Fox Business News. His philosophy and tactics have been featured in articles in several publications such as the New York Times and Sports Illustrated, as well as in the book "Sportscasting."
