Basketball Heads to Nashville on Saturday Night

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team hits the road for the final time in 2021 with a trip to Nashville to battle Vanderbilt on Saturday night at 8 p.m… The game is set to take place at Memorial Gymnasium and will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.

Last Time Out
The Presbyterian College women's basketball team had a balanced scoring attack with five in double-figures as the Blue Hose defeated Piedmont 86-64 on Wednesday night at the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose were led by Jade Compton with 18 points as she added six rebounds in the win.
 
Last Five Games...
Presbyterian is 4-1 over the last five contests led by Jade Compton who's averaging 15.4 points per game and six rebounds. Compton has scored 15+ points in the last four games with a season-high 21 against Jacksonville. Nyah Willis is averaging 12.4 points and 7.2 in the last five games. Freshman Paige Kindseth is leading the Blue Hose with 7.6 boards per contest.
 
Blue Hose in the Ranks...
Jade Compton sits fifth in the league averaging 15.1 points per game following her team-high 18 on Wednesday night... She's also sixth in field-goal percentage with 48.6%... Nyah Willis ranks sixth in the conference with a 75.0% free throw percentage... Senior Bryanna Brady is tied for fifth in the league with nine blocks as she has an average of one per game so far this season... As a team, PC is third in the conference allowing only 59.7 points per game... Presbyterian also sits third in the league in shooting at 42.1%...
 
Field Goal Shooting...
As we head down the stretch of non-conference play, PC ranks third in the Big South in shooting percentage at 42.1%. It is highlighted by three games of 50% or higher including a season-high 54.8% against ETSU during PC's four-game win streak earlier this season. Presbyterian has shot 41.5% or higher in seven of the nine games during the 2021-22 season.
 
Field Goal Defense...
PC also ranks third in shooting defense among Big South teams allowing just 37.6% of opponents field goals thur nine games. The Blue Hose have held opponents under 38.2% in the last seven games highlighted by 28.3% from the field by Clemson.
 
On Tap...
PC is scheduled to play 27 contests under the directon of fourth year head coach Alaura Sharp during the 2021-22 season including 18 league games which begin on December 29th inside the Templeton Center. The Blue Hose are slated to make trips to Kentucky, Clemson, Furman, Jacksonville and Vanderbilt in non-conference play while welcoming UNCG, ETSU and the likes of St. Thomas to Clinton. Presbyterian will play seven home-homes in league play with single matchups slated for UNC Asheville, Campbell, High Point and Winthrop.
 
Scouting the Commodores...
Vanderbilt comes into Saturday's matchup with a 6-5 mark following a 10-day break for the Commodores. Vandy defeated Albany 52-41 in its last on-court action at home. The Commodores are led offensively by Brinae Alexander who's averaging 12.7 ppg and 3.7 rebounds a contest. Jordyn Cambridge checks in averaging 10.5 points per game with 5.4 rebounds on average. Kaylon Smith leads Vanderbilt with 5.8 rebounds per game. Cambridge leads the way thru the first 11 games with 3.9 steals per game.

Back in Blue
Coach Sharp brings back four starters from last year's squad, with Tionna Carter,Jade ComptonTrinity Johnson and Nyah Willis getting the start in all 21 games last season for the Blue Hose. PC returns its top five scores from a year ago in Carter (12.7 ppg), Compton (12.1), Johnson (10.0 ppg), Willis (8.7 ppg) and Maleia Bracone (8.0 ppg). PC returns 88.1 percent of its scoring from a season ago including the aformentioned five. The Blue Hose welcome back their top five rebounders from a season ago led by Compton averaging 8.0 per game last season.
 
New Kids on the Block
Coach Sharp has brought five newcomers into the fold for the 2021-22 season, four freshmen and one transfer. Center Bryanna Brady (Goodyear, Ariz.) transfered to Presbyterian College from UC Riverside. Joining the Blue Hose as freshman are guards A'Nyah Barker (Fair Lawn, N.J.), Jo Raflo (Gainsville, Va.), Paige Kindseth (Farmington, Minn.) and forward Jasmine Stevens (Atlanta, Ga.) all make up the Blue Hose incoming freshman class.
 
Up Next...
The Blue Hose wrap up their non-conference slate on Monday with a noon tip against Agnes Scott back inside the Templeton Center. Monday's matchup with the Scotties will wrap up a three game in five day stretch for PC.
