Volleyball Set to Continue Homestand against USC Upstate

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team continues its homestand this week with a pair of contests against USC Upstate at the Templeton Center.

Last Time Out...
Presbyterian returned from its bye week with a pair of setbacks against UNC Asheville, falling to the Bulldogs in four and five sets, respectively, in last week's series. Erin Cooke continued her streak of double-doubles, racking up her fifth straight in the opener (18 kills, 14 assists), then posting her sixth career triple-double (11 kills, 22 assists, 21 digs) in the finale. The 21 digs set a new career-best for the junior. The five-set defeat to Asheville marked the fourth five-setter of the season for the Blue Hose, who had just two matches go the distance during the entire 2019 season.
 
Freshman of the Week...
For the second straight week that PC competed, libero Anna Hewitt was named the Big South's Freshman of the Week on Tuesday. Hewitt racked up 49 digs (5.4 digs/set) in the series against Asheville, including a career-high tying 27 in the series opener.
 
Leading the League...
Entering this week's series, Presbyterian boasts Big South Conference leaders in multiple categories. Freshman libero Anna Hewitt tops the Big South in total digs with 163, and is also pacing the conference in digs/set at 4.7. Senior middle blocker Allie Wright has racked up a league-leading 40 total blocks this season, and also sits atop the conference with 32 block assists.
 
Scouting the Spartans...
USC Upstate is coming off of a sweep at the hands of first-place High Point last week and has dropped three straight overall. Alexis Mareko has totaled 47 kills (1.7/set) on a .265 hitting percentage to pace the Spartans' attack, while also adding 29 blocks (1.1/set).
